Adobe to Acquire Virtual Ubiquity

Virtual Ubiquity, Inc. has announced on their site that they have agreed to become part of Adobe Systems. Virtual Ubiquity, Inc. is the creator of the online word processing tool called Buzzword. An official announcement will be made today at Adobe’s MAX 2007 conference. The deal is not expected to close until the end of this year, and terms have not been disclosed.

The online word processing space is shaping to be a future battle ground for the big boys: This acquisition by Adobe will be putting it in direct competition with Microsoft and Google. Microsoft already has Office Live workspace (still in beta), while Google is beta-testing Google Docs (free). The buzz on the Web is that Buzzword is ahead of Google Docs and Office Live workspace. I will be comparing all three services and a few other smaller players in the field in a future post, so stayed tuned.

More information about this deal and about Buzzword is available here.
