Now Shipping - The Nokia N81 8GB
The Nokia N81 8GB is now available for purchase globally. The N81 8GB did not generate the same type of hype and media blitz like the iPhone, but it packs a punch.
So should you go out and buy this latest device from Nokia? Depends. At more than $600.00, I think it is very expensive, the same conclusion reached about the iPhone. Apple later slashed the price of the iPhone and had to appologise to its angry fans. I don’t think that Nokia will make the same mistake, but you never know. If this is a must-have device for you, you will find all the details at the Nokia Website.

Meet the Palm Centro
Palm, Inc has just released the Centro, a cheap (about $100.00), do-it-all mobile device with iPhone-like features. The Centro comes with camcorder and camera capabilities. Plus you have access to email, IM, the Web, phone, and every other PIM features you can imagine.

The Centro comes with 64MB of flash storage, and is expandable to 4GB (the iPhone has 4 - 8 GB of non-expandable storage). The Web browsing features of the Centro matches that of the iPhone. You can get virtually all Web features.
In a previous post about the iPhone, I speculated that part of the reason for the huge iPhone price cut could be that Apple forsaw cheaper iPhone-like devices from its competitors. At $100.00 and tons of features, the Palm Centro could be your next buy, that is, if you don’t mind doing without the sex-appeal of the iPhone. Find the specs of the Centro here

Google AdSense for Mobile
Google Inc. has announced the availability of Google AdSense for Mobile devices. You knew this was inevitable, so no surprises here. The mobile ad space is still in it’s infancy, and there is no dominant player - yet. Admob which serves more than 1.5 billion targeted ads each month, is the only serious player in the moblie advertising arena, but with this announcement, look for more exciting news in the space in the coming months.
We don’t expect the folks at Admob to be worried, and we don’t also expect Google to acquire the only real competition in the field. Just don’t forget that Google acquired DoubleClick. Keep your fingers crossed, and come back to these pages for more.

Apple Apology
A day after it slashed the price of the iPhone by $200.00, Apple, Inc issued an apology to all those early adopters that spent hours queued up in front of their local reseller just to be first in line to get their mittens on the iPhone. Imagine that! Only if they had waited a few short months. Come with me and lets take a short trip through the Time Track: Apple released the iPhone in late June (and the base price was $600.00). Two days ago (just a tad more than 2 months after it was first released) apple slashed that price by $200.00.
A little patience and you’d have an extra $200.00 in your pocket. Patience is not only a virtue, it could also save you $200.00. Why did Apple reduce the price of the iPhone? Did Steve Jobs suddenly realize that $600.00 is too high a price for a wireless phone with some cool features? Or is he anticipating some stiff competition this coming holiday shopping season?
We don’t know the real reason, but here’s our take: Steve (Jobs) looked in his rear view mirror and spotted some low-priced competition. We think that all the major players in this field will be coming out with something similar to the iPhone before the holiday shopping season begins. Stay tuned.
If it will make those early iPhone consumers happy, Apple announced a $100.00 store rebate to each person who purchased an iPhone before the price cut..

Apple refreshes iPod line
Apple announced the introduction of the iPod Touch, and remixed the other members of the iPod family. Also announced was a massive price cut of the older models. New in the iPod family is the iPod Touch, which is basically an iPhone with some of the cool features of the iPod.
The iPod Touch sports built-in Wi-Fi networking and a “revolutionary multi-touch user interface”. This is a welcome news for those with an aversion to wireless phones, but who still like to browse and listen to their favorite audio and video files. The iPod Touch gives you about 22 hours of audio playback time, and about 5 hours for video.

Along with the iPod Touch comes a remixed iPod Nano. Apple has added video playback capabilities to the new iPod Nano, and some cool new games.

The price of the iPhone was slashed by $200.00, and we’re sure that some early adopters will have something to say to Steve Jobs.
Stay tuned for more on this topic.
